Description
The West Branch Boat Ramp isn't widely known. It's a local spot for canoe & kayak access. If you visit, please honor the quiet and wildlife. It's a great backwater spot with good potential to see moose and other wildlife, especially if you immerse in the quiet.
It's good for canoeing and kayaking, but not so much for motored boats. This section of the West Branch of the Penobscot is blocked by rapids upstream and drains down into Dolby Pond.
The West Branch Boat Ramp has minimal amounts of parking spots, but usually there's space available.
The Boat Ramp is also home to a piece of tree carved public art with a mushroom village installation at its base - artist unknown. There's also a memorial to two river drivers who lost their lives to their logging work on the river. If you visit the memorial please honor their memory and its deep relation to local heritage.
Location: The boat ramp is located on Medway Rd. east of the airport and west of The Gathering Place on a sharp turn in the road. Please be careful pulling in and out of the ramp.
