The Lakes Byway Information Area

The Lakes Byway Information Area is a must stop along the Katahdin Woods & Waters National Scenic Byway. This rest area has a public bathroom, tons of interpretive information, and sometimes nesting turtles! It's located directly next Golden Road Crossing, the Big Moose Inn and Loose Moose Bar & Grill, multiple boat launches and public swimming. It's the last stop on the tar before the Golden Rd. begins toward Abol Bridge and Big Eddy Campground. This area

This Byway Information Area is newly constructed to serve Byway travelers. There are many interpretive panels about the Byway and the region, beautiful plantings, plenty of parking, and you couldn't find a more convenient spot to stop as it's next to many other services and amenities.

Take the Millinocket Rd. west out of Millinocket. It turns into the Millinocket Lakes Rd., then the Baxter State Park Rd. The ITS system passes right through this spot for snowmobiles and ATVs.
