Description

Discover one of the Katahdin region’s quiet hiking gems at River Pond Nature Trail, a scenic trail network located on Katahdin Forest Management LLC land near Millinocket, Maine, and the southern entrance of Baxter State Park. Set between River Pond and the West Branch of the Penobscot River, the trails wind through mixed hardwood forest and actively managed timberland while offering outstanding views of Katahdin.

The approximately 4.6-mile network features mostly level terrain and several route options, making it suitable for a short nature walk or a longer woodland hike. Follow the easy Tenderfoot Trail beside River Pond, explore the Timber Cruisers and Foresters trails, or take the River Drivers Trail to the West Branch of the Penobscot River.

Moose Point is a highlight of the trail system. Its open shoreline provides beautiful views across River Pond toward Katahdin and makes a memorable place to pause for photographs or a trailside lunch. Moose, white-tailed deer, birds and other wildlife may be seen throughout the area, although sightings are never guaranteed.
