The Opera House sat vacant for 15 years until the current owners, the Hartin family, brought it back to life. They purchased it in 2020, opened the Inn with rooms to let in 2021, and cut the ribbon on the lounge in 2022. It has been a venue for a variety of events, including theatrical performances, musical concerts, town meetings, and other social functions over the years. The focus is on preserving its legacy while making renovations for modern use worthy of its landmark status.
The Island Falls Opera House is known for its classic architectural design, typical of early 20th-century opera houses in small American towns. It features a traditional stage, seating area, and some ornate detailing that reflects the period in which it was built. The current owners are working to re-open the stage!
In its heyday, the Opera House was a vibrant center of activity, bringing together the local community for entertainment and social interaction. It was a place where residents could enjoy live performances, watch films, or attend important civic meetings.
The revitalization efforts to provide a vital community space are well underway, and the new owners are working to make the Opera House a place for townspeople to gather, hold cultural events, and attract people from near and far.
The Island Falls Opera House remains an important part of the town's identity, and there is a strong sense of community pride associated with it. Local residents often participate in fundraising events or volunteer their time to help with maintenance and restoration projects.
