Description
The East Branch Penobscot River Scenic Turnout is conveniently located along the Grindstone Rd. (Rt. 11) in Grindstone Township, Me, roughly 7 miles North of Rt. 157 in Medway. It's a great spot to take a break or a swim as you drive the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Scenic Byway. This small turnout is sporadically maintained, has an interpretive panel about the area, and short trails leading to the East Branch of the Penobscot River.
This scenic turnout does not have picnic tables or a bathroom, but is a great spot to take a break and immerse in nature along the river. The short trails heading out the back of the turnout head into dense woods for roughly 100ft to the river's edge.
Roughly 2.25 miles North of Pine Grove Campground & Cottages and 2.5 miles South of the Grindstone Rest Area, this spot is another little gem along this historic stretch of the Byway.
