Bear Mountain Smoke Shack (Mount Chase, ME)

Welcome to Bear Mountain Smoke Shack in Mount Chase, Maine! Bear Mountain Smoke Shack is a rustic BBQ restaurant and catering service located at 927 Shin Pond Rd, Patten, Maine on the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Scenic Byway. They are open year-round and are on both the ATV and snowmobile trail systems. They are also just up the road from the Peavey Brook Outdoor Center & Trails, offering a nice bike or frisbee golf and BBQ combo!

Specializing in authentic Southern-style barbecue, they offer a mouthwatering menu featuring pulled pork, brisket, pork belly, nachos, chili, Brunswick stew, hot dogs, green beans, collards, and much more. Their menu has some rotations each week. A standout favorite is their Maple Pork Belly Sandwich with slaw. Patrons can enjoy takeout services, or dine in, before or after visiting the country petting zoo! Their food is passionately prepared with years of experience and many local ingredients.

They use local ingredients for many of their dishes, including the beef & chicke, cabbage for their slaw comes from Patten, collards come from Mt. Chase, the honey in their cornbread is from a local bee keeper, and the eggs in their bread pudding come from on-property. They also have eggs for sale! 

You can eat outside at the picnic tables or another of their uniquely curated spots around the property. If it's a hot or cold day out, their air-conditioned and heated dining hall is full of character and is a comfortable setting to enjoy your meal with friends and family.

Bear Mountain Smoke Shack has lots of fun around the property too! Several hand-made swings are hung around the property to make your short wait more enjoyable, as well as darts, horse shoes, hook & ring game, and a country petting zoo! The petting zoo has rabbits, chickens, and two goats named Basil and Pesto. There's goat food available if you'd like Basil and Pesto to come over for a close-up visit. If you like the swings, they are also available, along with a few other furniture pieces made locally.

Bear Mountain Smoke Shack is a whole experience that every visitor should try. Marc & Angelina are the owners and operators, and they love meeting and talking with folks from all around, especially if you bring a pet. Marc was a competitive BBQ chef many years ago, then transitioned to working for Traeger Grill when they started up. He served in many positions at Traeger over the years, including offering cooking classes around the country to help familiarize folks with the grills. His passion for the BBQ ingredients and process is deep, and it shows.

Bear Mountain Smoke Shack is open from 11 AM to 7 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays year-round. We recommend you check their Facebook page for the latest schedule. They may be off some days catering.

Bear Mountain Smoke Shack's menu includes Beer Can Chicken, Pull Pork, Brisket Sandwiches, Plates, or Nachos. Also, Chili, Smokehouse, or Naked Dogs.
