The Bait Hole Recreation Trails are a hidden gem in Millinocket! It's a 4.2-mile trail system of forested trails on the edge of Elbow Lake. It's dog-friendly and is a great destination for spotting wildlife, fishing, walking & trail running, mountain biking, snow shoeing, and cross country skiing.

Combined with other close-by trail systems in Millinocket and the Lakes region, the Bait Hole Recreation Trail system makes for a great destination for all kinds of outdoor recreation activities. In the past bait hole was used by locals as its name suggests, to trap bait for sale and for fishing. There are beautiful views at Bait Hole itself, and especially the scenic causeway on the Bait Hole Loop trail overlooking Elbow Lake.

The Bait Hole trail system is nestled among the railroad tracks, motored sports trails, old working waters, and has a second scenic overlook on the North Twin Dam Loop near the North Twin Hydroelectric Power Plant. Multi-use recreation amongst industrial heritage and surrounded by nature and beauty - a great example of what the Katahdin region is all about.

It's a great location to bring your leashed dog for a long outing! Also check out the dog park in Millinocket.
